Zar-i Bukhara — "Gold of Bukhara" — was founded by master artisan Ilyoskhon Shakirov, whose craft was shaped in one of Central Asia's most celebrated centers of jewelry-making. For centuries, Bukhara's zargarlar (goldsmiths) have produced work of breathtaking precision. That tradition lives in every piece we create.

From our Philadelphia studio, we bring these ancient techniques to contemporary American life — gold and silver jewelry infused with cultural memory, made entirely by hand.

Each Zar-i Bukhara piece is made entirely by hand in our Philadelphia studio, using techniques refined over fifteen years and rooted in the ancient zargarlik — the goldsmithing tradition — of Bukhara, Uzbekistan.

Filigree (Chust-kori)

Fine twisted wire is hand-formed into intricate lacework patterns — a technique requiring years of training and exceptional precision.

Hand Engraving

Motifs are carved directly into gold and silver using hand-held gravers, creating texture, depth, and one-of-a-kind character in every piece.

Stone Setting

Turquoise, rubies, emeralds, pearls, and garnets are set by hand — bezel, prong, and pavé — to hold each stone with lifelong security.

Zar-kori (Goldwork)

Traditional Bukharan gold inlay and overlay techniques applied to create layered, luminous surfaces that catch light from every angle.
